Obi watches Ikorodu City beat Rangers 2-0 in Lagos
Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi watched from the stands as Ikorodu City secured a 2-0 victory over defending champions Enugu Rangers in a Nigeria Premier Football League match in Lagos on Sunday.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate attended the Matchday Six fixture at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, where he sat alongside Ikorodu City president Sanmi Doherty.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate attended the Matchday Six fixture at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, where he sat alongside Ikorodu City president Sanmi Doherty.
The hosts took control early, with Aderemi Adeoye opening the scoring in the eighth minute. Ikechukwu Junior doubled their advantage in the 63rd minute to seal the victory.
The result marked a notable turnaround for Ikorodu City, who had lost 2-1 to Rangers when the two sides last met on the final day of the 2025/26 season. Rangers’ victory in that match helped secure their ninth league title.
Obi was seen speaking with people around him during the match, while fans approached him for photographs during the half-time interval.
Ikorodu City later shared a photograph of Obi at the stadium on its social media account, welcoming him to the fixture.
The victory gave Ikorodu City three points in their sixth league outing of the 2026/27 campaign. The official NPFL fixture list confirms the match as a Matchday Six encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Obi’s appearance came as his party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress, prepares for the 2027 general election. The political context did not feature in the match itself, with his visit centred on the league fixture.
