NYSC coordinator urges corps members to take skills acquisition seriously

The Akwa Ibom Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, has urged the newly deployed corps members to take skill acquisition to be offered in the camp seriously.

Ekwe said this during the official swearing-in ceremony of 2021 Batch “A” stream 1 corps members deployed to the state at NYSC orientation camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai on Monday.

She said that the current situation of the country would not allow any graduate to finish school and remain idle without having any skill.

The state coordinator charged corps members to take maximum advantage of Skills Acquisition and Enterprenureship Development (SAED) as a leeway to address the challenges of post-service years.

She stated that the camp successfully registered a total of 997 corps members before the close of registration at 12 midnight on Sunday, comprising 477 male and 520 female.

She said: “The Skills Acquisition and Enterprenureship Development (SAED) Programme is the brainchild of the scheme.

“It is intended to provide a veritable platform upon which the post service challenges of unemployment would be addressed.

“I will like to reiterate that orientation course is meant to instill in you the spirit of perseverance, resilience and build your capacity to overcome the challenges of the service year and beyond,” Ekwe said.

She praised Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State for his commitment towards the welfare of corps members deployed to the state. She, however, expressed appreciation to the state government over the resumption of work on all uncompleted projects in the camp.
