NOA promotes electronic birth, death registration system

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to embrace the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system introduced by the National Population Commission (NPC) to improve the registration of births, deaths and other vital events.

The Director of NOA in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, appealed in Uyo during the launch of a public awareness campaign on the E-CRVS system.

Mkpoutom stressed the importance of registering all vital events to ensure the availability of accurate data for national planning and sustainable development.

“Every birth, every death and every major life event must be documented. The E-CRVS system is a modern, efficient tool that makes this process seamless and accessible to all residents,” he said.

He explained that the digital platform eliminates lengthy manual processes, reduces errors and ensures that vital statistics are captured promptly and accurately.

The state director called on community leaders, religious organisations and local government authorities to support the campaign by encouraging residents to register all vital events with the National Population Commission.

He said reliable data was essential for effective government planning, equitable resource allocation and the delivery of critical public services, including healthcare, education and infrastructure.

“The E-CRVS system is not just a government initiative; it is a tool for national development. Every registered birth gives a child a legal identity and access to fundamental rights, while the registration of deaths supports public health planning and social welfare programmes,” he said.

Mkpoutom urged residents to visit designated NPC registration centres or use the commission’s approved online platforms to register births, deaths and other vital events.

He added that the NOA would sustain grassroots sensitisation across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State through its Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers (COMOs) to promote widespread awareness and participation.

According to him, the campaign forms part of a broader national effort to strengthen Nigeria’s civil registration and vital statistics system in line with global best practices for data-driven governance.
