The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has re-elected Dr. Ike Neliaku as President and Chairman-in-Council, and inducted Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, as patron of the state branch.
Neliaku was re-elected as President and Chairman-in-Council of the NIPR on Friday in Uyo alongside Mr Ini Ememobong, Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Akwa Ibom State, and 15 other council members during the institute’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Nigerian Public Relations Week (NPRW25).
In his acceptance speech, Governor Eno, who promised to abide by the code of conduct that governs the institute and support its ideals, appealed to NIPR members to continue projecting Nigeria positively.
While declaring his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Eno urged Nigerians to patiently cooperate with the President as he works to change the nation’s fortunes.
The governor attributed the ability of his administration to execute many projects without borrowing from financial institutions to the availability of funds, and the strategic and visionary decisions taken by President Tinubu, which he said have yielded increased revenue and more funds for developmental projects.
He pledged to make Akwa Ibom State a tourist destination of choice in the country, citing the ongoing reconstruction of the abandoned 5,000-seater capacity International Conference Centre and a 200-room world-class hotel as some indicators of his commitment to develop the state’s tourism sector.
While performing the investiture ceremony, NIPR’s President and Chairman-in-Council, Dr Ike Neliaku, stated that the honour bestowed on Governor Eno was an acknowledgement of his role in promoting the organisation’s code, professional standards, and solemn commitment to creating a more reputation-conscious society.
Neliaku listed his achievements over the past two years to include digital migration of membership applications, establishment of sectoral hubs, execution of MoUs with various organisations, and the annual Nigeria Spokespersons Summit.
The Nigerian Public Relations Week (NPRW25), which has the theme: “Harnessing Public Relations for Economic Renaissance”, had in attendance members of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, the political class, fellows, and members of the Institute.
The weeklong activities comprised a PR round table with traditional rulers, undergraduate forum, plenary sessions, posthumous awards, installation of the Body of Advisers, and the investiture ceremony.
