NIMASA’s Anyika to lead Africa Blue Economy Women’s Forum
The Africa Blue Economy Roundtable (ABER) has appointed Dr Chizoba Christiana Anyika as Secretary-General of its Women’s Forum with immediate effect. The announcement was made by ABER, an initiative convened by the BRACED Tourism Promotion and Development Initiative (BTPDI).
Dr Anyika is currently a Deputy Director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), where she heads the Maritime Guard Command (Administration) in Lagos. The appointment acknowledges her extensive expertise in maritime administration, transport and logistics, coastal tourism, sustainability, and the broader blue economy.

The Africa Blue Economy Roundtable (ABER) has appointed Dr Chizoba Christiana Anyika as Secretary-General of its Women’s Forum with immediate effect. The announcement was made by ABER, an initiative convened by the BRACED Tourism Promotion and Development Initiative (BTPDI).
Dr Anyika is currently a Deputy Director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), where she heads the Maritime Guard Command (Administration) in Lagos. The appointment acknowledges her extensive expertise in maritime administration, transport and logistics, coastal tourism, sustainability, and the broader blue economy.
According to ABER, her appointment directly aligns with its mandate to advance the Africa Blue Economy Strategy and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. In her new position, Dr Anyika will provide strategic leadership to the ABER Women’s Forum across Africa and the African Diaspora.
She will lead policy engagement, advocacy, and strategic partnerships aimed at increasing female participation in fisheries, aquaculture, coastal tourism, shipping, marine energy, ocean conservation, and logistics.
Additionally, Dr Anyika is expected to drive and expand ABER’s flagship initiatives, mobilising expertise and networks across the maritime, energy, logistics, and tourism sectors while collaborating with the ABER Regional Council on strategy development and reporting.
Speaking in Yenagoa, ABER Convener and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Piriye Kiyaramo, praised Dr Anyika as exceptionally well suited to the position.
“Dr Anyika brings the perfect blend of policy, operations, and advocacy,” Dr Kiyaramo stated, adding that her background in maritime policy, coastal tourism, and leadership strategy makes her ideal to guide the forum at a critical juncture for Africa’s Ocean economy and inclusive development.
The ABER Women’s Forum serves as the gender-focused arm of the Africa Blue Economy Roundtable. It works to amplify women’s voices, enterprises, and leadership across the sector while unlocking financing, building capacity, and influencing policies for sustainable development.
ABER itself is a continental platform designed to accelerate the implementation of the Africa Blue Economy Strategy by bringing together governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society to advance investment and innovation under Agenda 2063.
