Nigerians react over NECO registrar’s death
Nigerians have expressed divergent views over the death or killing of Professor Godswill Obioma, registrar of the National Examinations Council.
According to his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Obioma on Tuesday, her husband was strangled to death by gunmen suspected to be assassins.
She said: “The assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything.”
She told an online newspaper, Peoples Gazette that her 67 years old husband had just returned to Minna from Abuja when the armed men attacked him. The police were yet to speak on the incident.
His death came barely 48 hours after Ahmed Gulak, a top politician of the ruling APC, was killed in Owerri, Imo State.
But Obioma’s second son refuted the murder claims of his father, saying that his father died in his sleep after a brief illness.
However, the Director of Human Resources of the National Examinations Council, NECO, Abdul Mustapha, told reporters on Tuesday morning that the NECO registrar, died in his sleep as a result of heart failure.
According to a statement by the family, the NECO boss died of a brief illness.
The statement was signed by Godswill Obioma the second and addressed to the Council’s Director of Human Resources.
It said the family will give details to the Council and members of the public. Confirm by Apexreporters magazine and online news.
Former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode said on his twitter page that on Sunday, Ahmed Gulak, a prominent Northerner, was killed in Owerri. Threats of reprisals were made.
On Tuesday, Godswill Obioma, a prominent Igbo & Registrar of NECO,was killed in Minna.
The killers stormed his home, strangled him & left without taking anything.
