Nigerian troops raid IPOB militants camp, kill seven, arrest five
Troops of 6 Division, Nigeria Army, in a joint security operation on Thursday, 27th May, 2021 killed seven IPOB militants after raiding their camp in Agbochia Forest in Eleme and Oyigbo LGA.
The troops, led by Brig Gen MD Danja, according to a security report also arrested five members of IPOB militants.
The joint security team, which comprise men of the Nigeria Police, operatives of the Department of State Security Service, DSS and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, engaged the IPOB members in a gun battle.
Items recovered during the operations are: AK 47 rifles, G3 rifles, locally made machine Gun, G3 magazine, rounds of ammunitions, baofeng handheld radios with chargers, black barrett’s, NAF Tag and rank of an LCPL, GD belts, locally made helmet with ESN inscription, assorted phones, NPF face cap, pieces of boots, camouflage T-shirt, backpack, and other valuable documents.
According to the security report, Army authority said the operation took place on the night of Thursday, May 27, at about 6:15 pm.
The statement read in part: “6 Div in conjunction with Keystone, DSS and NSCDC led by Brigadier-General MD Danja conducted clearance/raid operations at suspected IPOB/ESN camp in Agbochia Forest along Pipelines Road Ogali/ Kom-Kom boundary between Eleme and Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers state”.
Meanwhile, the suspects and corpses have been handed over to Rivers State Commissioner of Police for further investigation.
