Mr Jonathan Olariche has assumed duty as the 18th State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom State Command, pledging to protect critical national infrastructure and intensify the fight against crime.
Olariche, who was transferred from the NSCDC Zonal Command Headquarters in Awka, Anambra State, made the pledge on Monday during his maiden briefing with officers and men of the command at its headquarters in Uyo.
He urged personnel to rededicate themselves to their duties, uphold professionalism and demonstrate greater commitment to the corps’ statutory responsibilities.
In his address, titled ‘Dawn of a New Paradigm’, the new commandant outlined a three-point agenda focused on leadership development, the advancement of the corps’ core mandate, and capacity building and empowerment.
He said effective security depended on exemplary, accountable and forward-thinking leadership at every level of command, adding that leadership should be measured by performance, responsiveness and the protection of the people officers had sworn to serve.
Olariche called on personnel to embrace a change in attitude, strengthen collaboration and foster mutual respect within the command to achieve the objectives of his agenda.
“We cannot expect new results with old habits. I call on every officer, from senior management to the newest recruit, to embrace a spirit of discipline, dedication and professional renewal.
“Align your attitude with this new paradigm. Let professionalism be your identity, promptness your tradition and integrity your signature. This command has a zero-tolerance policy on failure,” he said.
The commandant also vowed to clamp down on oil thieves, vandals of critical national assets and infrastructure, and other criminal elements operating in the state.
He assured residents that the NSCDC would intensify efforts to protect lives and property and prevent illegal activities across Akwa Ibom.
Olariche, however, stressed that security could not be achieved by law enforcement agencies alone. He appealed to residents to support the command by providing credible information on suspected criminals and criminal activities.
“Security is a collective responsibility.
Our doors are ever open for constructive collaboration, intelligence sharing and mutual respect,” he said.
