Navy honours Rear Admiral with power project in A’Ibom

The Nigerian Navy has inaugurated a rural electrification restoration project in Ikot Edeghe, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, in honour of Rear Admiral Etop Ebe.

The project, executed under the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, is part of the Nigerian Navy’s initiative to recognise distinguished senior naval officers while improving the welfare of host communities.

Inaugurating the project, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, said the intervention demonstrated the Navy’s commitment to strengthening civil-military relations and enhancing the living conditions of communities.

Represented by the Chief of Naval Transformation and Innovation, Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi, Abbas said the project aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by providing critical infrastructure and promoting sustainable community development.

“The Nigerian Navy remains committed not only to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain but also to contributing meaningfully to national development through impactful community-based projects,” he said.

The naval chief urged residents of Ikot Edeghe to take ownership of the project by protecting and maintaining the facilities to ensure they continue to serve the community for generations.

Speaking earlier, Rear Admiral Ebe expressed gratitude to the Chief of the Naval Staff for approving the project.

He said Ikot Edeghe had been without electricity for nearly a decade, a situation that hampered economic and social activities in the community.

According to Ebe, the restoration of electricity will improve the quality of life by providing reliable power to homes and streets, extending business hours for traders and artisans, and creating better learning opportunities for children.

He also thanked dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders and residents for supporting the project and attending its inauguration.

The ceremony concluded with the official commissioning of the rural electrification restoration project and an inspection of the installed facilities by the special guest of honour and other dignitaries.
