The National Association of Seadogs (NAS) Pyrates Confraternity, Ox-Bow Marino Deck, on Thursday resolved an acute water shortage at the Bayelsa Medium Security Centre.
The association donated an electricity generator for pumping water for hygienic use of the inmates.
It will be recalled that Bayelsa is in a blackout following vandalism on four transmission towers linking the state to the national grid.
The NAS members, led by the Deck Capoon Mr Timothy Egbonoje said the generating set valued at ₦850,000 was part of their obligations to the society.
According to the NAS leadership, the visit is a follow-up to their previous needs assessment aimed at addressing the facility’s pressing power issues.
Egbonoje, while handing over the generator to the Assistant Controller Corrections, Mr Rasheed Ogundare, said the donation is part of the fulfillment of the promise to support the facility.
He, however, expressed concerns about the well-being of inmates and prison officials, pledging further interventions aligned with the organisation’s ideals.
“As a testament to our commitment to social responsibility and community development, the National Association of Seadogs has consistently demonstrated dedication to uplifting lives and promoting positive change,” Egbonoje said.
Assistant Controller expressed gratitude and encouraged like-minded individuals and organisations to emulate the National Association of Seadogs.
He emphasised the collective responsibility to make the correctional centre habitable, adding that the task would not be left solely to the Federal Government.
