May & Baker Nigeria Plc has alerted investors and members of the public to a fraudulent investment scheme being promoted online in the company’s name.
The pharmaceutical company said the scheme, described as “M&B Equity Stake”, falsely promises investors daily or guaranteed returns and is not authorised by the company.
In a statement signed by Mrs Adetoun Abiru on behalf of Marina Nominees Limited, the company secretary, May & Baker said neither it nor its subsidiaries and affiliates had authorised any person, platform, website, publication or group to solicit funds under the purported investment programme.
The company warned that any message, flyer, website or other communication seeking money from the public in connection with the scheme should be treated as fraudulent.
May & Baker also clarified that it is not conducting any rights issue, public offer or other capital-raising exercise involving the solicitation of investments from the public.
The clarification is particularly significant as the fake offer appears to be designed to give potential victims the impression that they are investing directly in the listed pharmaceutical company.
May & Baker urged shareholders, customers, employees and other members of the public to exercise caution and independently verify investment-related claims before transferring funds or sharing financial information.
The company said any legitimate future capital-raising exercise would be announced through its authorised communication channels and conducted in compliance with applicable laws and the requirements of the Nigerian Exchange Limited and other relevant regulators.
It advised members of the public not to rely on unsolicited investment messages or online promotions merely because they bear the company’s name or branding.
