Man, 20 arrested for sexually assaulting minor in Lagos
Detectives at the Akodo Police Division, Lagos State, have arrested a 20-year-old Ayo Adenupebi, a resident of Ise town, Akodo, for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl (name withheld) who lives on the same street as he.
The incident was reported after the victim’s elder sister noticed bloodstains on the minor’s thigh around 7 pm on October 1, 2021.
According to the minor’s sister, the victim alleged that the suspect, Ayo sexually assaulted her and warned her not to tell anyone including her parents.
The minor’s father immediately went to the police station to file a report which prompted detectives to arrest the suspect.
The suspect after his arrest confessed to having truly molested the nine years old girl but was quick to plead for leniency, claiming that he could not really explain what made him commit the crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu urged parents and guardians to keep an eye on their wards particularly the female child to avoid being sexually violated by shameless and irresponsible men preying on innocent female victims in the neighbourhood.
The CP also directed that the suspect should be transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the victim has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
