LGA elections: PDP wins 30 of 31 councils

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has won elections in 30 of the 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom State.

The list of winners was stated in a release signed by the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), Mr Aniedi Ikoiwak.

The only local government area where the All Progressives Congress (APC) party won is Essien Udim, the council area of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Though the elections were relatively peaceful in many local government areas, election violence was recorded in some LGAs.

In Ikono, two persons were reported dead while in Ibiono Ibom, the AKISIEC office was burnt down.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Timfon John, who confirmed the incident in Ibiono Ibom, however, said all electoral materials meant for the election were not consumed by the fire.

“Some hoodlums partly touched the AKISIEC office in Ibiono Ibom, but election materials remain intact, election is also ongoing,” she said.
