Lagos State govt declares COVID-19 Omicron variant over
The Lagos government has declared the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was driven by the Omicron variant over.
The Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi said the government is now focusing on getting more individuals to take the Covid immunisations.
“Now that we’ve completed the fourth wave, we’re unsure what will happen next.
“However, we want to be prepared, and the State Governor has stated that we must meet certain targets this year, so we’ll go back to the drawing board, as there is some vaccination apprehension in Lagos.
“We need to figure out how to make it easier for Lagosians to get these immunizations.”
According to Abayomi, vaccines have been shown to be beneficial in reducing the risk of severe sickness from Covid.
He added that it doesn’t protect one from Covid-19 so much as it keeps the person from becoming terribly ill or even dying, which is exactly what we don’t want in Lagos: people getting sick and dying.
He added: “We don’t care if you get a cold or Covid; we just want you to get better.
“The Omicron variation didn’t seem to impact the lungs as seriously as the Delta variant did in this fourth wave, thus most persons were managed at home.”
