Lagos Police detain stepfather, boyfriend over girl’s abuse

A 38-year-old man identified as Michael and another suspect have been detained by the Lagos State Police Command over the alleged sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl.

The suspects were arrested in Agege, Lagos, on Sunday after the girl reportedly told her biological father that her stepfather had repeatedly sexually abused her.

The girl, who was living with the suspect, had allegedly run away from home on several occasions before returning to her biological father, according to sources familiar with the case.

Following her disclosure, her father reportedly lodged a complaint at a police station in Ketu, prompting an investigation that led to the stepfather’s arrest.

The police subsequently arrested another suspect described by the command as the girl’s boyfriend.

Confirming the arrests, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said both suspects were being detained while the girl had been taken for medical examination.

“The case was reported yesterday evening (Sunday); both the stepfather and the boyfriend were arrested and detained while the victim was taken to Mirabel Centre for medical examination and will be transferred to Gender Ikeja tomorrow morning (Tuesday) for further investigation,” Adebisi said.

The police have commenced further investigation into the allegations.
