The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has announced plans to introduce its On-Street Parking Scheme in selected local government areas, including Ikeja, before the end of 2026.
The disclosure was made on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by LASPA’s General Manager, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, to the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda, according to a statement issued by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Dunkwu Divine.
Adelabu said the visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with local government authorities and sensitise them to LASPA’s initiatives aimed at improving parking management across Lagos State.
She explained that the proposed scheme would require motorists to pay for parking in designated on-street locations, beginning with a pilot phase in selected councils.
According to her, the initiative is designed to enhance parking regulation, reduce traffic congestion and create employment opportunities, particularly for residents in the affected communities.
Adelabu noted that local government councils and local council development areas would benefit from LASPA’s parking management programmes based on their level of cooperation and support for implementation.
She added that the authority remains open to suggestions and contributions from local authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the successful rollout of the initiative.
The LASPA boss further explained that responsibility for parking management in Lagos was initially vested in local governments before it was transferred to the agency by the Conference of the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state.
In his response, Dauda thanked LASPA for the visit and commended the agency’s efforts to improve parking administration across Lagos. The Ikeja council chairman also pledged his support for the scheme and called for intensified public sensitisation to educate residents on proper parking culture.
