A newly elected executive member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Yesiro Karamo, has died just hours before he was due to be inaugurated into office.

Karamo, who was elected as the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary, was among the state executives chosen through consensus at the APC congress held on Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, in Lagos.

His death occurred only hours before the inauguration ceremony for the newly elected state executive committee, which was scheduled to take place on Thursday at the Lagos APC Secretariat.

The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress confirmed the development in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo.

According to the statement, the party received the news of Karamo’s death with “profound shock and deep sorrow”.

The statement described his passing as a painful loss to the party, particularly at a time when his dedication and commitment to progressive politics were expected to contribute to the party’s activities.

“His passing is a tragic loss to our great party at a time when his energy, commitment and passion for progressive politics were most needed,” the statement read.

The party also noted that Karamo had just been entrusted with a key responsibility within the state executive council, adding that he was widely regarded as a loyal member who strongly believed in the party’s ideals.

APC further praised his contributions to the growth and stability of the party in Lagos State, which it said led to his emergence as Assistant Publicity Secretary during the state congress.

“Though his tenure was tragically cut short, his enthusiasm, humility and readiness to serve left a lasting impression on colleagues and members alike,” the statement added.

The party said Karamo would be remembered for his commitment to the progressive cause and his service to the APC in Lagos State.
