Institute gets new chairman

Ini Billie, Uyo

Dr Mrs Rosalyn Essien has emerged as the fourth Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) in Akwa Ibom.

Essien defeated Mr Clifford Thomas with 18 votes against 7, out of 25 votes cast to become the Chairman of the institute.

In her acceptance speech at the weekend in Uyo, Essien said the development and training of its members would be a key focus of her administration.

She stated that for members to carry out their tasks as expected, they must undergo mediation training that would help build peace in the society.

“Leadership is all about shared vision and responsibility. I want to assure you that during my tenure, I intend to build on the achievements of my predecessors in office.

“I am aware that the assignment is daunting, therefore I call on all members to join hands with me to strengthen our Branch and move it to the next level.

“My administration will be membership-centred. In other words, emphasis will be on membership drive, membership growth, membership development and training, and active participation of members in the Branch and ICMC activities.

“We will have webinars and trainings to educate members, and mediation sessions to build peace in the society.

Adequate publicity will be given to all activities of the institute,” she stated.

She applauded the immediate past Chairman, Mrs Mfon Edemekong, FICMC, and other past chairmen, for the solid foundation they had laid for the institute.

She further commended ICMC’s former State Chairman, Chief Magistrate Helen Umana for serving as an observer, and the Electoral Committee, led by its chairman, Dr Ekong Demson, for a transparent and satisfactory election.

Other members of the executive are Vice President, Dr Kufre Essien; Secretary, Queen Udofia; Financial Secretary, Imaobong Nsewo; Publicity Secretary, Eno Efo Esq.; and Welfare Secretary, Columbus Dennis.

Essien is a licensed Human Resource Manager, a Chartered Mediator, a Dispute Resolution Specialist and a United Nations Ambassador for Peace.
