Ikorodu LG flag-off Itundomigaran drainage construction

The Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Saturday, flagged off the construction of 176.8 metres of drainage system at Itundomigoran community in Ikorodu.

The council’s, Hon Wasiu Adesina, said at the flag-off ceremony that the drainage construction was necessary to ensure easy movement of water and to prevent flooding which has been a major challenge in the community.

Our correspondent reports that the drainage is 1.76.8 metres with 750 widths with a completion period of four months.

He said: “This is the longest drainage system construction project since this administration has started, although it is not the first project my administration has done so far in this community.

“The Itundomigoran drainage system is very important because it makes the road passable, especially during the rainy season.

“One of the priorities of this administration is construction and rehabilitation of roads; drainage system, provision of pipe born water, electrification and empowerment programme.

“This project will be completed in four months but with the support of people in the community it may be completed earlier than the time scheduled as you can see that work has started immediately.”

Adesina said that the construction of the drainage system was in fulfilment of a promise he made during his election campaign and also as the dividend of democracy to the community.

The council boss said the project would be handed over to the Community Development Association (CDA) to take ownership and urged residents to maintain the project in order to serve them for a long period of time.

He enjoined the community to ensure they pay their tax promptly and also to vote for all the candidates of All Progressive Congress (APC) from Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as president to the rest of them at the state level for more dividends of democracy.

“This is the longest drainage system since this administration started, the drainage is going to be covered and also as walkways to alleviate sufferings caused by flood in the area.

“Apart from the drainage system, we also plan to build a k-clamp market, installation of street lights and construct bore water in the community.

“Very soon my administration will embark on the construction of some roads like; Dada street,  Kokoro Abu road, Solomade road and empower widows and the ages in Ikorodu.

“We will also continue our loan scheme to market men and women in Ikorodu central,” he said.

Mr Omotayo Awolesi, who spoke on behalf of the resident expressed satisfaction at the kind gesture and urged resent to desist from using the drainage system as a dumping site for refuse with a promise to ensure adequate monitoring and maintenance after completion.

Awolesi, councillor representing the ward, commended the council boss and pointed out some additional pressing needs of the area waiting for attention.

“We thanked the Chairman for the construction of drainage, as a listening boss, we are Oliver Twist, we still need more attention in our community,” he said.
