Ibom Deep Seaport will create employment for A’Ibom people - Etim

The Chairman of Mbo Local Government Council, Mr Sunday Etim, has expressed his gratitude to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for his readiness to ensure that the Ibom Deep Seaport becomes a reality.

He thanked the governor for re-awarding the construction of the 13.6 km Orukim-Unyenge-Universal Energy Road as a dual carriageway to the seashore.

The chairman further appreciated the governor for appointing Comrade Ini Ememobong as Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport.

He described Ememobong as a versatile personality who is always on target to deliver every assignment he has been given..

Addressing the participants at the Maritime Trade and Logistics Sensitisation Workshop, Etim maintained that Ibom Deep Seaport would create employment opportunities for the people of Mbo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom Senatorial District and Akwa Ibom State, generally.

He called on relevant stakeholders in the maritime and blue economy sector to give the governor all the necessary support for the seaport to be sited in Akwa Ibom State, which he said would enhance the state’s and the people’s economic potential.

The workshop organised by the Ministry of Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport in partnership with Brightflow Logistics Services and Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport attracted participants from all walks of life including Journalists, Civil Society Organisation, Public Relations Practitioners, Engineers, Architects, ICT Experts, Skilled Workers, Stakeholders and Prospective Practitioners in the Maritime and Blue Economy Sector.

The sensitisation workshop took place at the Udom Emmanuel Dakkada Tower, Banking Layout, Uyo, on Friday, 16 May 2025.

The host and Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Emem Iniobong urged Akwa Ibom citizens to seize the opportunities and learn vital skills which would enable them to benefit from what the Ibom Deepsea Port would offer.

According to him, it would be sad if Akwa Ibom citizens lose out from the various opportunities the seaport would offer Nigerians when it began operation.

He stated that every documentation concerning the Federal Government for the seaport to come into reality had been met, adding that the Akwa Ibom State government was only studying the document in order that it would not falter in its quest to run the port.
