The wife of the Lagos State governor, Dr Mrs Ibijoke Sanwoolu has asked women to take proper care of their children and stop patronising traditional maternity during pregnancy.

Sanwo-Olu said this during the inauguration of the second round of Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health Week (MNCAHW).

She said: “It is very important for women to take care of their child from age zero to five for proper growth and to visit the hospital for antenatal during pregnancy.

“During the antenatal, they will be properly monitored and vaccinated against any form of the disease that can hinder safe delivery of the child.”

According to her, Lagos State frowned at domestic violence and rape and urged victims to speak out to curtail the menace in the society, adding that telephone lines have been provided for them.

Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government Area, Mr Wasiu Adesina, said that the first lady has in many ways displayed her passion and commitment for her profession as a medical doctor and love for humanity on health care prevention since her assumption.

He added that since the inception of this health care project initiative, people living in Lagos and its environs were actively involved and benefitting from the bi-annual health care service.

Adesina stated that the health services have resulted in the increase in participation of residents at the grassroots level to patronise the LG and the LCDA’s Primary health centres and General hospitals.

The council boss appealed to residents of Ikorodu to patronise the one-week health programme to know their children’s health status and proper way of managing their health condition.

“We are calling on the pregnant women and nursing mothers to come and benefit from the health program which is going to be here for one week.

“The exercise is also for children from age zero to five,” he said.
