Gunmen attack another police station, kidnap officer in Imo

Gunmen on Wednesday night attacked Mbieri Divisional Police Headquarters and kidnapped an officer in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
It was learnt that one of the officers, who fought back, was kidnapped while the other two tried to resist the gunmen sustained serious gunshot injuries as the assailants made way to cells and freed some suspected criminals.
They were said to have made away with phones belonging to suspects and police operatives at the station.
A community leader, Nokey Ebikam, stated that the police divisional headquarters was not burnt but the gunmen freed the suspects after vandalising the facility.
The Police Public Relations officer, Imo State Command, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the attack.
He added that a police officer was missing while two others were injured as the police on duty tried to resist the gunmen.
Ikeokwu also said that some suspects detained in the police facility were freed by the attackers.
The PPRO assured that police authorities in the state had begun investigation into the attack soon.
Six Divisional Police Headquarters in the state were said to have been attacked from February to April in Imo.
