The waves of kidnapping that have swept parts of Akwa Ibom State, especially Oruk Anam Local Government Area and environs have taken another dimension with the alleged kidnap of a businessman last Saturday.
Our correspondent gathered that a four-man armed gang around 8:30 pm, invaded the popular Urua Anwa junction in Aya Obio Akpa village in a blue unregistered Toyota Corolla and whisked one Ufot Johnson Okorie, an indigene of Ikot Ibritam community away.
It was further gathered that the daredevil gang fired several shots into the air to scare people away before they entered the victim’s shop and took him to an unknown destination.
A source told our correspondent that a surveillance team from the Nigeria Police Force from Oruk Anam Division, arrived at the scene of the incident for assessment and evaluation after the gang had gone.
Meanwhile, the kidnappers have yet to reach out to the victim’s family.
When contacted to confirm the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko MacDon, could not be reached for comments as he neither answered calls made to his telephone nor replied to text a message sent to his phone.
