Progressive Community Development Association, Oke Oko Isawo, Agric, Ikorodu, Lagos State, has donated food and gift items to over 100 vulnerable residents to mark the end of the year.

The beneficiaries who included widows, children, youths as well as other unspecified persons, were given cash and awards in various categories.

The CDA Chairman, Mr Sunday Abiodun, who spoke during the ceremony, asked residents to unite and positively impact the lives of those they live with or live around them.

According to him, the gesture was aimed at reducing poverty among people in the community and its environs.

He said: “We have tried in the spirit of Christmas to ensure that less privileged, widows and children are catered for in our community.

“The event is put together by the combined efforts of residents and members of the CDA executive members.

“That is why we gathered here to celebrate with one another.”

The chairman added that different competitions were organised in addition to making the day glamorous such as the Bicycle race, Ludo game and Ayo for senior citizens.

He stated that the CDA also inaugurated an entrance gate on link roads to curtail insecurity as part of the activities to mark the end of the year celebration.

Also speaking, Mr Anthony Afolayan, General Secretary National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Ikorodu West branch, commended the CDA and urged youths to shun the use of hard drugs.

Afolayan advised the community youths to be law-abiding and not engage in anything that can tarnish the image of their families.

“This programme will promote love and peaceful coexistence among residents.

“However, youths should be guided and not engage in crime that can land them in prison especially during this Yuletide.

“I commend the CDA on their effort in making sure that the vulnerable among them have a sense of belonging,” he said.
