Group commends Niger Delta minister’s approach in addressing region’s core concerns

The Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has commended the Minister, Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Okon for being proactive in addressing the core concerns of the people.

This is contained in a statement in Uyo on Sunday by the Akwa Ibom chapter Chairman of MOSIEND, Mr Patrick Afiako and the Secretary, Mr Daniel Esin.

MOSIEND said that so far, the minister had shown a remarkable difference in leadership since his assumption of office.

The Niger Delta rights group described the establishment of a panel to investigate alleged indiscriminate employment in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as a good omen.

It stated that the minister had shown a good understanding of the plight of the Niger Delta people and the core essence of the ministry.

“We are aware that the minister has directed NDDC to mobilize Setraco to work on the completely dilapidated Ahoada flank of the East-West Road.

“We also know that the minister tirelessly engages his colleagues in the ministries of Works and Housing on the need to repair the Ogoni Eleme axis of the road.

“To us, these steps show that the minister is a committed and competent administrator, ” the statement read in parts.

The group commended Okon for insisting on thoroughness in the payment of contractors handling projects in the region.

According to MOSIEND, the minister’s approach in handling the challenges faced by flood victims in the region is an obvious sign of his understanding of the people’s plight.

The group urged Niger Delta communities to support the complete implementation of ongoing NDDC projects in their domain.

“As a people, we need to avoid sentiments and work together for the growth of the region,” the group said.
