FRSC to arrest, fine motorists with fake, forged documents

Akpan Umoh, Uyo

The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has vowed to arrest and fine motorists carrying fake and forge documents.

The State Sector Commander, Matthew Olonisaye said this while speaking with newsmen on the upcoming Joint Task Force Enforcement Drive in Uyo on Monday.

Olonisaye lamented the attitude of some motorists plying roads with fake documents and patronising touts instead of visiting the assigned centres.

He said that the Joint Task Force Enforcement Drive which has the collaboration of Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), Akwa Ibom Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) and FRSC, would commence on Tuesday 14th, 2021.

“Most drivers are using fake and expired driver’s license to ply the road. Let me state here that anybody that will be caught with fake and forge documents will be arrested and fine.

“Let me use this platform to advise the public not to patronise touts. They must also refrain from receiving driver’s licence by proxy,” he added.

Olonisaye, who said that the exercise would last for one week, added that 4663 drivers’ licenses were left unclaimed in their custody.

He assured that the exercise would be highly strict on the offenders, warning his officers to desist from receiving bribe.

“We have 4,663 driver’s licenses in our custody unclaimed. This exercise would be highly strict on offenders who refuse to get or renew their licences.

“Giving and receiving bribe is an offence, I use this opportunity to warn my officers against collecting bribe and anybody caught will be dealt with in accordance with our laws,” he said.

The Sector Commander further stressed that motorists using illegal fake and old plate number would  be impounded during  the exercise.
