FRSC commences enforcement on street trading in A’Ibom

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Akwa Ibom State Command has begun enforcement on street trading, effective from 18 October 2024, especially along the Ibom Plaza Roundabout in the Uyo metropolis.
The Sector Commander, Mr Edward Odiete, revealed this during the celebration of the 2024 Customer Service Week in the Command’s Headquarters, Uyo.
According to Odiete, as the lead agency saddled with the responsibility to ensure safety on the Nigerian roads, the corps will not fold its arms to see people trading on the road and obstruct the free flow of traffic.
“Our business is to make the road safe for all road users that is the responsibility we have, in line with the new thinking of this administration, to rejig and properly position the corps.
“By October 18, we are going to launch serious enforcement on street trading along the Ibom Plaza, as they cause obstructions on the road.
“We are not going to condone encroachment on the road by traders. Is going to be a joint patrol with other security agencies and stakeholders.
“A life lost on the road is a minus to us, so we cannot avoid to stay aloof,” Odiete said.
Odiete said the customer service week with the theme: “Above and Beyond” provides an opportunity for the corps to reflect on the effectiveness and efficiency of services rendered to customers.
The sector commander said FRSC will continue to ensure quality service delivery to the people to build goodwill and customer satisfaction.
He said the theme for the 2024 customer service week is “Above and Beyond” emphasising the importance of Corps going the extra mile to ensure customers satisfaction.
The sector commander said the Corps would continue to sensitise and enlighten motorists on safe road use culture to avert road carnages.
He warned all road users against actions that tend to undermine the safety of the road users, as any live lost cannot be recovered.
The 2024 customer service week was witnessed regular and special marshals, representatives of driving schools, fleet operators and health workers, among others.
