Former Lagos State governor, Lateef Jakande, is dead

First civilian governor of Lagos State and Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime (1993-98), Alhaji Lateef Jakande, died on Thursday morning in Lagos, aged 91.

Jakande was a journalist, who became governor of Lagos State in Nigeria from 1979 to 1983 before the military under Major General Muhammadu Buhari coupe outsted the civilian government.
