Fleeing kidnappers set police vehicle ablaze
Gunmen have abducted a traditional title holder, the Wali of Taura, Alhaji Kabiru Ahmad, when they stormed his residential building in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
It was gathered that the gunmen while fleeing from the scene after abducting the victim, shot at a police patrol van, causing it to burst into flames.
A resident who spoke to journalist on the condition of anonymity, said the armed men numbering about 50 arrived the area around 3am, early Saturday and abducted Alhaji Kabiru.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of Jigawa State Police Command, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
He disclosed that the Police, at about 3:00 am, received report that a gang of armed hoodlums invaded the residence of one Alhaji Kabiru Ahmad and kidnapped him.
He further said that a team of police officers rushed to the crime scene with a view of arresting the gunmen, he however, said that the armed men upon sighting them, took to their heels.
He said that the police patrol team nonetheless followed the hoodlums and unfortunately, they ambushed and opened fire on the patrol team.
He disclosed that effort was ongoing to rescue the victim and possibly apprehend the hoodlums.
