The clarification follows complaints regarding severe delays and disruption at UK processing centres, including Manchester.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alao Babatunde, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo acknowledged the operational setbacks and assured applicants that measures were actively being taken to resolve them.
He noted that the scheme was specifically introduced to give UK-based citizens broader access to processing options.
The ministry emphasised that standard costs remain unchanged: $150 for a five-year passport and $230 for a ten-year passport, excluding standard banking service fees.
“It is necessary to clarify that this process involves no additional fees beyond the official $150 and $230 rates for five- and ten-year validity passports respectively, excluding bank charges,” the statement read. “Neither the Ministry of Interior nor the Nigeria Immigration Service has imposed extra charges.”
The minister added that cross-ministry discussions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are currently underway to fix the administrative bottlenecks affecting applicants.
