Fadah urges newly deployed corps members to promote unity

At least, 1, 505 corps members deployed to Akwa Ibom State have been urged to promote national unity instead of promoting hatred on social media.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Fadah, said this during the swearing-in ceremony of 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai LGA on Tuesday.

Fadah, who was represented by the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, also warned the corps members to desist from drug abuse, cultism and other social vices.

He reminded the corps members of the major objectives of NYSC, which is the promotion of national unity and integration, adding that they should promote only ideals that will bring unity to the nation.

He urged the corps members to avail themselves of the opportunities for self-employment offered through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme during the orientation exercise

“Let me also remind you that the oath of allegiance you have taken today is significant, as it is expected to guide your conduct in the Service Year as well as have an everlasting influence on your life after service.

“I also urge you to avoid using social media for spreading fake news, fuelling hatred and other negative purposes, and instead deploy the same for the promotion of unity and development.

“You are strongly advised to be security conscious at all times, and to report any suspicious characters or activities around you to the appropriate authorities,” Fadah said.

He urged the corps members to ensure that they get themselves vaccinated in line with the provision of the Federal Government.

Fadah, who declared the ceremony opened, admonished the corps members to demonstrate a high level of discipline, adding that the regimented nature of the camp was intended to instil discipline and build resilience.

The high point of the event was the administration of the oath of allegiance on the corps members by Justice Edem Akpan on behalf of the Akwa Ibom Chief Judge, Justice Ekaete Obot
