Eno urges corps members to avoid night travel

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has urged corps members deployed to the state to be security-conscious and avoid travelling at night during their service year.

Eno advised on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch C orientation course at the permanent orientation camp in Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

The governor, represented by the Director of Youth Development, Ministry of Youth Development, Mr Emmanuel Akpabio, cautioned corps members against night travel under any circumstance.

“Permit me to strongly caution you against travelling at night for any reason. Should your journey extend beyond 6:00 p.m., kindly seek temporary shelter in a corps lodge, police station or military barracks.

“Most of the unfortunate losses we have recorded in the scheme have resulted from night travel. Please, be wise and prioritise your safety,” Eno said.

He urged corps members to board vehicles only at designated motor parks with properly documented passenger manifests and to share their locations with friends and family.

“Remember, the numbers of the security agencies are in the security tips you were issued. Please use them in case of emergencies,” he added.

The governor further advised corps members to play pivotal roles in their places of primary assignment, befitting their academic status, and to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities.

“As ambassadors of unity and development, you are expected to play a significant role in enlightening our people on their civic responsibilities and in strengthening our collective pursuit of a just, progressive and prosperous society,” he said.

Eno commended all camp officials and sister agencies who contributed to the success of the orientation exercise.

Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Sam Pepple, led the governor’s representative through the closing ceremony.

Pepple said the corps members, during the three-week orientation exercise, exhibited discipline, resilience and the leadership capacity needed for the task of nation-building.
