Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has insisted on the inclusion of women into elective positions in the state.

Speaking during a meeting with leaders, elders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state on Wednesday in Uyo, Eno proposed the inclusion of women into offices in the forthcoming local government elections.

He stated that at least two women candidates must be supported to emerge as Chairpersons of Councils in each of the three Senatorial Districts of the state.

“We are proposing that we must allow for inclusion in terms of gender in the spread of offices in the forthcoming Local Government election.

“In specific terms, we must produce, at least, two women as candidates and support them to win elections as Chairpersons of Councils in each of the 3 Senatorial Districts of the state, and in LGAs where we have a male as a candidate, we must deliberately fill females as running mates and support them to win.

“Again, if a certain LGA has 10 wards, at least four out of the 10 wards must produce female candidates and support them to become councillors,” he stated.

The governor advised the party leadership to follow the principles of zoning and push for inclusion throughout the congresses and Local Government elections.

While speaking, the State Chairman of the People of Democratic Party (PDP), Elder Aniekan Akpan commended the stakeholders for their consistent support for Pastor Umo Eno’s administration and the party.

Akpan who said the support will birth better development programmes, policies and interventions for Akwa Ibom people, called on citizens and PDP members not to relent in the support of the party and the ARISE agenda of Governor Umo Eno.
