Enang presents credentials to German President, assumes office
Nigeria’s new Ambassador to Germany, Senator Ita Enang, formally assumed office on Thursday after presenting his Letters of Credence to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during a ceremony at Bellevue Palace in Berlin.
During the ceremony, Enang presented three official instruments on behalf of President Bola Tinubu: the Letters of Credence accrediting him as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, the Letter of Recall for his predecessor, and his Letter of Appointment, confirming his nomination and posting to Berlin.

During the ceremony, Enang presented three official instruments on behalf of President Bola Tinubu: the Letters of Credence accrediting him as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, the Letter of Recall for his predecessor, and his Letter of Appointment, confirming his nomination and posting to Berlin.
Steinmeier welcomed the new envoy and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nigeria in key areas, including economic development, security and the welfare of citizens of both countries.
Following the ceremony, the Nigerian Embassy in Berlin hosted a reception in Enang’s honour to mark the commencement of his diplomatic assignment.
The event attracted ambassadors and chargés d’affaires from countries accredited to Germany, senior officials of the German Federal Foreign Office, representatives of international organisations based in Berlin, and members of the Nigerian community.
Leaders and members of the Nigerian community in Germany, including a strong delegation from the Akwa Ibom community in Berlin, described Enang’s appointment as a proud moment for both Nigeria and Akwa Ibom State, citing his extensive record of public service.
In his remarks, Enang thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to serve as “a bridge of prosperity” between Nigeria and Germany.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with Germany in trade, investment, energy, skills development, education and migration management.
“My mandate is clear: to project a new Nigeria that is open for business, to protect and promote the welfare of Nigerians in Germany, and to attract German investment, technology and skills partnerships to Nigeria,” Enang said.
Speaking on the prospects for bilateral cooperation, Enang highlighted opportunities in manufacturing, agriculture, the blue economy, renewable energy, and technical and vocational education, noting that these sectors align with the development priorities of both countries.
Accompanied by his wife, Dr Rose Enang, the ambassador assured Nigerians in Germany of an open-door policy at the embassy and pledged to prioritise diaspora welfare and engagement.
“We are one people, one nation. The Embassy will be home to all Nigerians. We will work together to project the best of Nigeria abroad,” he said.
Enang’s assumption of office comes as Nigeria seeks to deepen economic ties with Germany through the Tinubu administration’s economic diplomacy agenda.
Many Nigerians in Germany expressed confidence that the ambassador would leverage his extensive legislative and executive experience, having served as a senator, Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs.
The presentation of his Letters of Credence formally completes Enang’s accreditation as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Germany.
