Emmanuel approves financial adjustments for pensioners

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has approved the financial adjustments of pension for pensioners enrolled before 2007-2012 in the state in reaction to issues raised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the 2023 Workers Day celebration.

Emmanuel also mandated the Head of Civil Service to summon all payroll officers from Ministries, Departments and Agencies where there are salary issues with the salaries of staff promoted from levels 6-7.

Recall that the NLC had on May 1 sought the governor’s intervention on issues bothering promotion arrears, 7.5 contributory pensions refund, and gratuity amongst others, and appealed that the issues be resolved before he exits office on May 29.

In a press release signed after the state executive meeting held on Thursday in Uyo, and signed by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, the governor directed that the issues surrounding training and resolution of the outstanding issues be sent to him for approval.

“Exco mandated the HoCS to summon all payroll officers from MDAs where there are issues with the salaries of staff promoted from level 6-7, for training and resolution of the outstanding issues and thereafter present same for the Governor’s approval.

“The HoCS presented a memo seeking approval for the consequential adjustments in pension arising from the implementation of the national minimum wage. Council approved the financial adjustments of pension for pensioners enrolled before 2007-2012,” he stated.

The governor further directed the Commissioner of Works to take steps to fix the bad portion of the East/West Road before the Qua River bridge.

The Commissioner of Lands and Water Resources presented a memo for Akwa Ibom State WASH (Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene) Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and open Defecation Free roadmap which was scheduled for further discussion.
