The Ekiti State Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education has urged more adults and youths who lack basic literacy skills to enrol in its programmes, following the graduation of 76 learners in the state.
The agency’s Executive Secretary, Modupe Falade, appealed during a graduation ceremony at the Basic Literacy Centre in Ekameta Local Council Development Area, Ikogosi-Ekiti.
According to a statement issued by the agency in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, Falade said access to education was essential for socio-economic development and could empower people to overcome ignorance.
She described the graduation as part of the Ekiti State Government’s efforts under Governor Biodun Oyebanji to promote inclusive education and extend learning opportunities to underserved communities.
Falade commended the Chairman of Ekameta LCDA, Adeniji Oluwaleye, and the council’s management for providing funding to support the literacy centre.
She urged literate residents to encourage adults and young people in their communities, including relatives and neighbours, to take advantage of the literacy programmes.
The executive secretary also encouraged the graduating learners to continue their education through post-literacy classes, stressing the importance of sustained learning and academic excellence.
Speaking on behalf of the graduands, Dorcas Akinyemi thanked the state government and the council chairman for allowing them to acquire literacy skills.
She pledged that the graduates would remain committed to furthering their education.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of cash gifts by the LCDA chairman to learners who placed first, second and third in academic performance.
