EFCC arrests 24 persons for Internet fraud in A’Ibom

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it has arrested 24 persons for Internet fraud in Akwa Ibom State.
EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Dele Oyewale said the suspects were arrested in Eket local government area by Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the commission.
Oyewale stated in a press statement he signed and made available to our correspondent in Uyo on Wednesday, that sophisticated mobile phones, six exotic cars and laptops were recovered from the suspects.
He revealed that the suspects who were arrested based on intelligence report would be taken to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
“Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested forty-six (46) suspected internet fraudsters at different locations within Calabar, Cross River State and Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
“While the Calabar suspects were arrested on October 13, 2023, their Eket counterparts were nabbed on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Both arrests were intelligence- based,” Oyewale stated.
EFCC Zonal Commander, Uyo, Assistant Commander, Bawa Hamidu Saidu had recently revealed that cases of real estate and internet crime were on the rise in Akwa Ibom State.
Saidu who said the situation was worrisome, stated that the commission was working to eliminate the problem, and called on the media to focus its search light on the sector to tackle the sharp practices.
He mentioned that only the collective fight against financial and economic crime by all Nigerians will help to nip the situation in the bud.
