Diri pledges support to NYSC scheme

Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa on Tuesday pledged support to the ideals, aims, programmes and activities of the National Youth Service Corps.

Diri stated this while presiding over the 2023 Batch C, Stream I opening/swearing-in ceremony of 1301 corps members deployed to the state for one-year mandatory national service.

Represented by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on NYSC Matters, Mr Wisdom Poyeri, he enjoined the newly sworn-in corps members to render quality service to the state and the nation at large as the nation depends on them for quality service and leadership.

Diri also urged the corps members to participate actively in all camp activities to boost their citizenship, and leadership skills, assuring that his administration will continue to support the scheme to achieve its set aims.

He assured them that the state government would not joke with their security and welfare because a conducive environment is essential for good service.

In her welcome address, the State Coordinator, Mrs Okpalifo Charity explained that corps members deployed to the state have been all registered and gradually adjusting to the demands of the orientation exercise.

She commended the governor for the ongoing construction of two additional hostels and drainages in the camp and urged early completion of work to aid the deployment of more corps members to the state.

The highlight of the event was the administration of National and NYSC Pledges on the corps members by the State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Maltide Abrakasa  Ayemieye.

There was also a Martial Arts display by the representatives of the corps members.
