Defection: Enang urges A'Ibom people to expect development

Sen. Ita Enang of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Akwa Ibom people. He encouraged them to expect more developmental projects in the State. This expectation arises from Gov Umo Eno moving into the APC. The APC is the party that controls the centre.

Enang spoke with newsmen in Uyo on Sunday. He reacted to the dumping of the People Democratic Party (PDP) by Eno. Eno joined the APC on Friday, June 6.

He noted that there was jubilation in the streets of Akwa Ibom. This was due to the movement of the governor to the Progressive Party.

Enang is the former Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly (Senate) and Niger Delta Affairs. He said with the linking of Akwa Ibom with the party at the federal, the state will definitely gain much.

He reminded the people of the development in the state between 1999 and 2015. During this period, the state was under the PDP. The federal government was also PDP then.

All Akwa Ibom people are celebrating. The Government and Governor of Akwa Ibom State have been linked to the centre.

“All my struggles since 2015 focused on making Akwa Ibom linked up to the Federal Government. If you are in the minority party, like when Akwa Ibom was, it is challenging.

“Our efforts have been to make the state join the party at the centre.

“You saw the level of development when Obong Victor Attah was the governor. We had PDP at the state and PDP at the federal. That was when the onshore/offshore dichotomy was abolished.

“We saw progress during Gov. Godswill Akpabio when it was PDP at the state and federal.

“I saw in advance that PDP was winding down in 2014/2015. I moved because I did not want to be in the minority party. I left to APC freely.

“Then I was a lone voice in APC. We tried to work together with Gov Udom Emmanuel. At that time, he was not cooperating.

This is why I am saying this. It is the best time in all my struggles to make Akwa Ibom state linked up with the federal government.

“Be in the same party as the President. That is why I am happy. My dream seems fulfilled,” Enang said.

Enang assured the governor. He also assured all those who joined the APC with him. All agreements and understanding reached with the party would be honoured.

He urged all the old members of the APC in the state to remain calm. He assured them not to be afraid. All interests would be accommodated.

He added that APC is more solid. The party is resolved to ensure victory in 2027. This applies to both the state and federal governments. He stressed that the essence was to build a bigger, stronger party.
