Customs intercept firearms at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos

The operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, while on a routine examination at the ‘D’ Wing of the Arrival Hall around 1105 hours on April 13, 2022, seized a Pistol with 2 magazines containing 26 rounds of ammunition in baggage belonging to one Mr Afolabi Olumide with Passport number B50120017.

The Public Relations Officer, MMIA Command, DSC Victor Ogagbor, said Olumide arrived at the airport from Washington DC, United States of America via United Airlines.

He said the suspected passenger had earlier been accused by the Nigeria Immigration Service of illegally being in possession of 2 International Passports.

He said: “The importation of the firearm contravenes Schedule 4 of the Customs and Excise and Management Act which is an Absolute Prohibition.

“NCS MMIA Command has since handed over the suspect and the arms to the Department of States Services.”
