CSO lauds varsity over financial bid opening

A foremost civil society organisation in Nigeria, the Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has lauded the management of the Federal University of Technology (FUTIA), Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State for complying with the provisions of the Public Procurement Act (PPA), 2007 in its Financial Bid Opening for the construction of Academic Building (School of Computing and ICT) in the 2024 TETFUND Annual Intervention Projects on Wednesday, 26th June 2024.

The center made the commendation in a statement in Uyo on Thursday, 27 June 2024, signed by its Director and Secretary, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, and Mr Christopher Ekpo, respectively.

The statement was made available to newsmen after the center honoured an invitation from FUTIA, which was signed by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel, to witness the Financial Bid Opening at the University Senate Chambers.

The CHRAN observed that the exercise was done in line with the six principles of public procurement under the 2007 Act, stating that the basic principles applicable to public procurement under the Act, are accountability, fairness, reliability, transparency, ethical standards, and economy, were fulfilled during the exercise.

The center observed that six (6) Companies participated in the bidding.

The statement further stated that the CHRAN team to the event was led by its Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, adding that members of the management of the institution who attended the event included the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Leo Daniel; Registrar, Nkang Offiongita; Bursar, Dr Mbobo Erasmus; representative of the Librarian, Prof. Philip Akor; Acting Director, Directorate of Physical Planning and Development, Arc. Abimbola Oke.

Others are Acting Head of Audit, Imo G. Uko; Acting Head of Legal Unit, Obot, Mary Inimfon (Mrs.); representative of TETFUND, Alameme Erasmus, and Quantity Surveyor from NIQS, Ikoibaha Udoette David, as an observer.
