The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Baba Mohammed Azare, has asked journalists to embrace balanced reportage in the discharge of their duties.
He said this when the leadership of the newly elected Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, paid him a courtesy visit at the State Command Headquarters, on Tuesday in Uyo.
The Chairman, Nsibiet John, who led the dedication, commended Azare for his outstanding leadership in policing the state and for ensuring the safety of lives and property.
He explained that the visit was aimed at renewing ties with the Police Force in the state, adding that such engagements would be periodic.
John further applauded the CP for his media-friendly disposition and pledged the union’s continuous cooperation and support in promoting peace and security.
In his response, Azare congratulated the NUJ chairman and his executives on their victory at the polls and assured them of the command’s unwavering support, just as it had extended to the previous administration.
He reaffirmed that the doors of the Police Command will always remain open to the NUJ.
The Police boss emphasised the importance of balanced reporting, urging journalists to always seek clarifications from the Command before publishing crime-related stories.
According to him, this approach would not only be fair but would also enhance professionalism in journalism.
