Armed robbery suspects on Tuesday morning around 6.10am at Carwash bus stop on Iyana-Oworo/Lagos Island, outward Third Mainland Bridge, opened fire on a commuter who was waiting for a staff bus.
It was gathered that the incident caused pandemonium as other commuters, who were not hit by the armed robber bullets, were seen running in all directions with some stumbling on concretes, sustaining minor and severe injuries.
Eyewitnesses said the victim was with some of his colleagues waiting for their staff bus when the armed robbers appeared and shot at the commuter.
A commercial driver, Adeyinka Abdulkareem said he was about to discharge passengers at the bus-stop when the hoodlums struck.
According to the driver, the armed robbers were four and dressed in blue/black T-shirt when they arrived at the bus-stop.
He stated that some commuters had already boarded the bus at the bus stop, while others were waiting for the bus when suddenly the assailants appeared and started shooting.
He said: “On arrival, they went straight to the bus-stop shelter, where some commuters were awaiting a staff bus and ordered them to submit everything they had.
“Before the arrival of the armed robbers, one of the commuters had left his colleagues to pick a stone for unknown reasons.
“Unfortunately, he ran into the scene on his way back. The armed robbers might have thought that he wanted to hurl the stones at them, and so shot at him.”
Another eyewitness, Madam Tofunmi Omolade, said the fate of the victim could not be ascertained.
“His fate could not be determined as we cannot say whether he was dead or not,” she stated.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, did not answer call made into his telephone; he did not also respond to text message that was sent to him.
