Chad shuts border with Nigeria over security fears, possible terrorist infiltration

The Government of Chad has announced the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria, citing heightened security concerns following reports of alleged U.S. military plans in response to Christian killings and genocide in parts of West Africa.

Military sources in N’Djamena, headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), confirmed on Monday that President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ordered a total military lockdown along the Nigerian border after intelligence indicated that terrorist elements in northern Nigeria were preparing to flee into Chad.

According to sources, the Chadian army has been placed on full alert, with troops and armoured vehicles deployed across key border corridors linking the two countries.

President Déby was quoted as warning that “no armed group or foreign force will be allowed to enter Chadian soil under any disguise.”

The decisive move comes amid rising regional tension and growing speculation over U.S. military operations in parts of the Sahel.

Security officials emphasised that the border closure was a preventive measure designed to protect Chad’s sovereignty and block potential infiltration by armed groups taking advantage of regional instability.
