CCSON warns politicians against heating politics, wait for 2027

Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria (CCSON) has cautioned politicians to wait for 2027 to begin campaigns instead of heating the political climate of Akwa Ibom State.
National Coordinator of CCSON, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, who spoke on behalf of the group frowned at the continuing media trial instigated by politicians against Governor Umo Eno and former governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, saying it was demarketing the state.
Speaking on Monday in Uyo during a press conference, Isong said heating the political climate before the schedule of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was unhealthy for governance.
He condemned the ongoing media trial saying though Akwa Ibom citizens have the right to hold government and its officials accountable, such complaints should be channeled to the appropriate investigative authorities, and not in the media.
“That CCSON frowns at and issues the red flag against, that section of the political class in Akwa Ibom State for piling up an unhealthy and fractious climate of politicking in the State towards the 2027 general elections.
“That CCSON restates its earlier position that if these overly futuristic political gladiators and their supporters do not call themselves to order, their inimical activities could ground the course of governance in the State.
“That CCSON urges politicians across party lines to close ranks and work towards the unity, progress and development of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria,” he stated.
Isong stated that CCSON is committed to the sustenance of democracy, good governance, rule of law and transparency and accountability in governments across the Nigerian State. CCSON is an umbrella organization cum mouthpiece of the leadership of 180 human rights groups, civil society organizations (CSOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), professional bodies, town unions, students’ unions and community-based organizations across the Nigerian State.
