The National Association of Seadogs (NAS), also known as Pyrate Confraternity, has challenged the Federal and State Governments to tackle the high cost of house rents in the country.

The NAS, OXbow Marino Deck, noted that despite the State and Federal Government policies on housing, the policies have failed, and many Nigerian families are becoming increasingly homeless due to the challenges surrounding rental prices in Nigeria.

NAS made this known during the celebration of the annual feast of Barracuda,2024 with the theme “The Impact of Economic Trend on Rental Prices”, insisting that such economic, social and legal factors leading to arbitrary increases in home rents should be checked and controlled.

The event, which hosted over 50 participants including virtual and physical attendance of family guests and Seadogs across the Oxbow Marino Deck, deliberated on rent challenges in Bayelsa and some other parts of the country.

The guest speaker, Mr. Collins Boleigha, pointed out some legal and economic benefits and challenges surrounding rental prices in Nigeria.

He also addressed the economic challenges faced by tenants, where the constant rising cost of goods and commodities and unemployment can affect affordability.

The NAS Capon, Oxbow Marino Deck, Mr Ebi Ayerite, while commending the turnout for the event, highlighted that the Annual Feast of Barracuda 2024 is more than just a ceremonial gathering for the NAS, it serves as a platform for social discourse, raising awareness about critical issues in Nigeria.

He noted that by combining celebration with social commentary, the NAS demonstrates its commitment to both its members and the nation’s development.

It was also revealed that the NAS Feast of Barracuda has served as a means of charitable activities of the NAS and past speeches and themes of the Feast of Barracuda could offer deeper insights into the NAS’s focus areas and their evolving concerns over time.
