Army raids Taraba, destroys camps, kills two, arrests suspect

Troops of Headquarters 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have intensified operations across Taraba State, dismantling multiple bandit camps, neutralising armed elements, recovering weapons, and arresting a key suspect linked to criminal activities.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said in a statement on Thursday that the latest offensive began on December 2, 2025, following credible intelligence on the activities of armed groups in the Tor-Tser general area.

According to him, troops carried out clearance operations in Shiid, Agia, and Tyozua villages in Takum LGA, destroying several bandit camps and forcing the criminals to flee.

During the operation, the bandits set fire to a wooden bridge in a bid to slow troop advancement, but soldiers pressed on, pushing the armed groups across the power line into neighbouring Benue State.

Muhammad confirmed that a suspect, identified as Dahiru Maigari, was arrested and is currently undergoing preliminary investigation.

In a separate development, troops conducted a fighting patrol around Karim Lamido and surrounding communities on December 4, 2025, to restrict bandit movement.

The patrol came under fire from armed elements, but soldiers swiftly repelled the attack, killing two of the assailants. One AK-47 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition were recovered, with no casualties recorded among the troops.

Commander, 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and gallantry.

He said the successful operations demonstrate that no terrain is inaccessible to the Nigerian Army and no criminal hideout is beyond reach.

The Brigade reassured residents of Taraba State of its commitment to pursuing criminals wherever they may flee and sustaining pressure until all threats to peace are eliminated.
