APWEN, AJOEL award scholarship to three female engineering students

The Ann Jonathan Obuebite Engineering Scholars (AJOES) programme, in partnership with the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Bayelsa Chapter, has awarded scholarships to the top three female engineering undergraduate students from Niger Delta University(NDU), Bayelsa State.
The award ceremony occurred during the inauguration of APWEN’s 4th Chairman, Mrs. Amalate Ann Jonathan Obuebite, PhD, FNSE.
The recipients, who are in their 400 levels at the NDU, were recognized for their academic excellence.
The recipients include Egi, Esther Ayebatari, with a CGPA of 4.75, received a scholarship of ₦120,000, Zidougha Ukiemoyemi, with a CGPA of 4.44, received a scholarship of ₦110,000, while Suoyo Ogiori, with a CGPA of 4.27, received a scholarship of ₦100,000.
The initiative is aimed at promoting and supporting the academic pursuits of female engineering students to excel in their fields.
The event also featured an inaugural lecture to honour Nigeria’s 1st Female Professor of Mechanical Engineering.
The event was presided over by the President of APWEN, Dr Adebisi Osim, and attracted dignitaries such as the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, immediate past Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gborigbiogha John Jonah (RTD), Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, Managing Director of Bayelsa State Electricity company, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo, among others.
A’Ibom assembly confirms 27 nominees for appointment
The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has confirmed 27 Commissioner and Special Adviser nominees
for appointment into the State Executive Council.
The confirmed nominees at plenary on Thursday include; Mr Kufre Udosen, Gen. Koko Essien (rtd), Mr Ubuo Effiong Ubuo, Prof. Ubong Essien, Dr Anietie Udofia, Mr Paul Bassey and Mr Ikoedem Ekong.
Our Correspondent reports that the House at plenary on Tuesday, Feb.18 confirmed 20 nominees.
The confirmed nominees on Tuesday, Feb. 18 were; Mr Aniekan Umanah, Dr Henry Archibong, Mr Nsikak Ekong, Mrs Alice Ekpenyong, Mr Frank Archibong, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (rtd), Mr Bob Emem, Comrade Ini Ememobong, Dr Offiong Offor, and Mr Uko Essien Udom.
Other confirmed nominees were; Dr Nsikak Nkan, Mrs Emem Ibanga, Mr Anthony Luke, Mr Iniobong Robson, Prof. Eno Ibanga, Dr Emmanuel Ekem, Mrs Inibehe Etukudo, Dr Frank Ekpenyong, Dr Ekanem Ekerete, and Dr Ubong Inyang.
Recalls that Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom on Feb. 11 sent 27 nominees to the House of Assembly for ratification into the state executive council.
The approval followed a thorough screening exercise and adoption of the report of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petitions, under the Chairmanship of Mr Aniefiok Attah.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Udeme Otong, directed the Clerk, Mrs Nsikak-Abasi Orok, to communicate the decision of the House to the Governor for necessary action.
Meanwhile, the House has adjourned plenary to reconvene on Feb. 27.
