The All Progressives Congress, Akwa Ibom State chapter has warned against the possibility of the party’s splitting or forming a new faction in the state.

It said some of its members had been seen socialising with members of the People’s Democratic Party in a manner suspected to cause division in the APC.

A communiqué issued at the end of stakeholders’ meeting on Sunday, the APC averred that such behaviours are not only anti-party but could lead many into confusion.

The communique which was signed by the former military administrator of Ogun and Rivers states and national caucus members of the party, group Capt. Sam Enwang (retd) called on the leadership of the party to work towards its advancement in Akwa Ibom.

“The meeting condemned the divisive gathering of factions within the party and resolved to call on all factional leaders to bury their interests and come under a united APC in Akwa Ibom State.

“The meeting condemned actions by some persons in leadership positions of the party who work with other political parties in the state and are currently romancing the People’s Democratic Party, thereby engaging in anti-party activities and causing confusion among members,” the communique noted.

According to the communique, the meeting exhaustively discussed, settled, and affirmed the minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio as the leader of the party in the state and called on members to work and cooperate with him for the advancement of the party.

It said: “The meeting also assessed the current registration and revalidation exercise across the state and noted the imbalance in the distribution of materials and the low turnout of members because of undue interference by some factions and groups within the party.”

The stakeholders also resolved to send a 10-man-delegation to the National Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the party, Mai Mala Buni to report and find solutions to the poorly coordinated registration and revalidation exercise in the state.
