The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ikorodu Local Government has flagged-off campaign of its candidate, Hon Wasiu Adesina, ahead of the forthcoming Local Government election on July 24 in the 20 LGAs and 37 local council development areas in Lagos state.
Speaking at the rally, the party’s LGA chairman, Mr Taiwo Longe, urged members to come out early and cast their votes massively for candidate of the party during the election.
According to Longe, Adesina has brought monumental developments across the LGA in his first term, adding that he needs to consolidate his achievements during his second term in office.
The leader presented APC flags to all the councillorship candidates in five wards that makeup the LGA and urged them to start their campaign in earnest.
“All the councillors should commence their campaign as soon as possible to ensure victory of our great during the election.
“This time, the next four years of this administration was to consolidate his first-time achievement on developmental agenda of the LG,” he said.
Speaking during the rally also was the chairman of Ikorodu Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr Lukman Shonibare, who urged the chairman to channel his concentration to such areas as Agura, Gberigbe, and all the communities.
Shonibare advised the LGA chairman to ensure that those areas were given the necessary attention to alleviate their sufferings on bad roads, adding that they have a greater number of CDAs compared to the Ikorodu Central.
“This administration should focus more on residents who live in areas like Agura, Gberigbe and other communities surrounding them.
“The chairman should shift his attention to the local communities so that they too will taste the dividend of democracy,” he said.
Adesina, in his manifesto posited that his administration would look at areas, where they were unable to work on during his first term in office.
He added that the council would embark on many empowerment programmes to uplift youths with skills in entrepreneurship and agricultural sectors.
He, however, promised to embark on rehabilitation and construction of road at Solomade area and areas that have been in a sorely state and links roads.
“During our next four years, we will attend to places that we have not got to as well as making our roads motorable.
“All the link roads in our LGAs will also be attended to during our second term. As you can see, our work during the first term of our tenure speaks for us,” he said.
At the rally, Mr Adebowale Ajayi, who spoke on behalf of the councillors, said that all of them would work harmoniously with the chairman for the growth and development of Ikorodu.
